How to verify a WhatsApp Business account
Six steps, most of them paperwork. The reason it goes wrong is almost always that people are trying to verify the wrong thing.
Short answer. You verify the business, not the app. Create a Meta Business Account at business.facebook.com using your exact legal business name, then open Settings → Business Info → Security Centre → Start Verification. Submit your legal name, registered address, phone and website, upload a trade licence or equivalent, and confirm control by receiving a code on a listed phone, email or domain. Meta usually decides within a few minutes to a few business days.
First, the three things people mix up
Most of the confusion around "verifying WhatsApp" comes from three separate statuses sharing one word. They are not the same, they are not obtained the same way, and only one of them is something you can simply go and do.
| What | What it actually is | Can you just get it? |
|---|---|---|
| Business verification | Meta confirming your company legally exists. Lifts your WhatsApp account past trial messaging limits. | Yes — submit documents |
| Green tick (Official Business Account) | A badge Meta grants based on brand notability — press coverage it can independently verify. | No — Meta's discretion |
| Meta Verified | A paid monthly subscription bundling a badge, impersonation protection and support. | Yes — you subscribe |
If what you actually want is the green tick, read the honest version in our guide to the WhatsApp green tick in the UAE first — most businesses will never get one, and no agency can promise it. If you want your account to send at scale, business verification is the one that matters, and it is the one covered below.
What you need before you start
- Your trade licence or certificate of incorporation, current and legible. In the UAE this is your DED or free-zone licence.
- Your legal business name exactly as printed on it. Not your brand name, not your shop sign — the licensed entity name.
- Your registered address, matching the document character for character.
- A phone number, email or domain you control and that is publicly associated with the business, because Meta uses one of these to confirm you are who you say.
- A website at your own domain. Not required in every case, but it makes the domain-confirmation route available and reduces friction.
The six steps
Step 1 — Create a Meta Business Account
Go to business.facebook.com and create a Meta Business Account for your company, if you do not already have one. Enter the legal business name exactly as it appears on your trade licence. Meta will later compare what you typed here against the document you upload, so a shortened or brand version of the name creates work you will have to redo.
Step 2 — Open the Business Verification section
In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings → Business Info → Security Centre and choose Start Verification. If you cannot find the option, your account has not triggered the requirement yet. That usually resolves once you have connected a WhatsApp Business Account or a Meta developer app, which is what makes verification relevant in the first place.
Step 3 — Enter your legal business details
Submit legal business name, registered address, business phone number and website. Every field has to match your documents. This is where most rejections are created: a company licensed as "Al Noor Trading LLC" that enters "AlNoor" because that is what the logo says will be rejected, and the rejection notice will not always be specific about why.
Step 4 — Upload one supporting document
Meta accepts several document types. Any one of these normally works, provided it shows the business name and address you entered:
- Trade licence or business licence (the standard route for UAE companies)
- Certificate of incorporation or formation
- Business bank statement
- VAT or tax registration certificate
- A recent utility bill in the business name
Upload the whole page, unedited and in focus. Cropped screenshots, photos at an angle, expired licences and anything with fields blacked out get rejected. If your address changed since the licence was issued, use a document that shows the current one.
Step 5 — Confirm you control the business
Meta then confirms you actually represent the company by sending a code to something publicly tied to it — a phone number, an email address at your domain, or the domain itself. Pick the method you can genuinely receive on. If you choose the phone route, make sure the number listed publicly for your business is one that someone answers.
Step 6 — Wait, and fix precisely what it names
Decisions commonly land in anything from a few minutes to a few business days. If it comes back rejected, read what Meta says was wrong, correct that one thing, and resubmit. There is no penalty for resubmitting. Guessing and changing five fields at once is how a two-day process turns into a two-week one.
Why bother. An unverified account sends at a trial-level limit and can register only a small number of phone numbers. Verification removes that ceiling, after which your messaging limit scales — 1,000 unique customers per 24 hours, then 10,000, then 100,000, then effectively unlimited — as long as your quality rating stays healthy. If you plan to broadcast at all, this is the gate.
Verifying a business in Dubai and the UAE
The process is the same globally, but a few things trip up UAE companies specifically:
- Licensed name vs trading name. UAE trade licences often carry a formal entity name that nobody uses day to day. Meta wants the licensed one. This is the single most common local rejection.
- Free-zone licences are fine. DMCC, IFZA, RAKEZ, DIFC and the rest are all acceptable. The document just has to be current and show the name and address you entered.
- Address formatting. UAE addresses vary wildly in how they are written. Copy the address off the licence exactly rather than typing how you would say it.
- The number you verify. The phone number used for business verification does not have to be the number you send WhatsApp from — a common and understandable assumption.
- Arabic documents. Bilingual UAE licences are normally accepted as-is. If yours is Arabic-only, expect to be asked for a translation.
None of this needs an agency. It needs your licence to hand and care over the spelling.
Why a verification request gets rejected
- The business name entered does not match the document — brand name instead of legal name, missing "LLC", different spelling.
- The address does not match, or the licence shows an older address.
- The document is expired, cropped, blurry, or has been edited in any way.
- The website does not resolve, or is a social page rather than a domain you control.
- The public phone number or email used for confirmation is one you cannot actually receive on.
- The document is in a personal name rather than the company's.
Every one of these is fixable. Correct the specific item, resubmit, and move on.
After verification: what actually changes
Verification alone does not get you a green tick, and it does not change what Meta charges you per message. What it changes is capacity: you can register more numbers, your messaging limit starts climbing, and you become eligible to run a real broadcast programme rather than a trial. The next constraints become your messaging limits and quality rating and your template approvals.
If you would rather not do any of this. Adjoltz handles Meta business verification, WhatsApp Business Account setup, template writing and approval, and the first campaign as part of onboarding — on Meta's official Cloud API, with the number and the account registered in your name, from AED 499/month and zero markup on Meta's message rates.
Frequently asked questions
How do I verify my WhatsApp Business account?
Verify the business, not the app. Create a Meta Business Account at business.facebook.com using your exact legal business name, open Settings → Business Info → Security Centre and choose Start Verification. Submit your legal name, registered address, phone and website, upload a trade licence or equivalent document, then confirm control of the business by receiving a code on a listed phone number, email or domain. Meta usually decides within a few minutes to a few business days.
How long does WhatsApp business verification take?
Commonly a few minutes to a few business days. Delays almost always trace to a mismatch between what you typed and what your document says, or to a document that is expired, cropped or hard to read. Fix the specific problem Meta names and resubmit — there is no penalty for trying again.
Is business verification the same as the green tick?
No, and this is the most common confusion. Business verification confirms your company is real and is what lifts your account past trial messaging limits. The green tick — officially the Official Business Account badge — is a separate status Meta grants based on brand notability, not paperwork. You can be fully verified and never have a green tick, and most businesses do not. Meta Verified, the paid subscription, is a third thing again.
How do I get the green tick on WhatsApp?
You do not apply for it the way most people expect. Meta grants the Official Business Account badge at its discretion, based mainly on whether your brand is notable — widely covered in news and media Meta can independently verify. Business verification and an active WhatsApp Business Account are prerequisites but do not earn it. Being a well-run small business is not enough, and nobody can guarantee it for you.
What documents do I need to verify a business in Dubai?
Usually your DED or free-zone trade licence, showing the licensed business name and address exactly as entered in Meta. A certificate of incorporation, business bank statement, VAT certificate or recent utility bill in the business name also work. The most common UAE rejection is entering a trading or brand name where the licence carries the full legal entity name.
Do I need verification to use the WhatsApp Business API?
You can start sending on an unverified account, but with a trial-level limit and a cap on registered phone numbers. Business verification removes the trial ceiling and lets your messaging limit scale as your quality rating stays healthy. Any business planning real broadcast volume needs to complete it.
