How to get the green tick on WhatsApp, step by step
This is the route for a number on the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API), which is the one Meta calls an Official Business Account (OBA):
- Get the number on the API through a provider, and keep it active. Meta wants the number registered on the platform for at least 30 days.
- Verify your business in Meta Business Manager with your trade licence or other company documents. This is not the badge, but you will not get the badge without it.
- Turn on two-step verification on the number.
- Get your display name approved. It has to match your brand as it appears in your licence or website. No "Official", no promo text.
- Make the brand easy to check. Meta removed notability from the written OBA rules in 2026, but approval is still a human review, so a live website and a consistent public presence under the same name may still help.
- Submit the OBA request for that number in WhatsApp Manager.
- Wait for Meta's decision. If it says no, you must wait 30 days before you can ask again, so fix what is weak first.
Run the checker above before step 6. It is built on exactly these rules.
How to get verified on WhatsApp Business (the app)
If you use the free WhatsApp Business app rather than the API, OBA is not open to you. The only badge route there is Meta's paid subscription (Meta Verified, being folded into Meta One in 2026), which verifies your business details and shows the badge after Meta checks your documents. Your profile needs a business name that matches your documents, a profile photo and recent activity.
WhatsApp green tick price: what does verification cost?
OBA on the API: Meta charges nothing for the badge. You pay for messages like anyone else, and your provider may charge for handling the application. Anyone selling you a "guaranteed green tick" for a fee is selling something Meta does not sell.
Meta Verified on the app: a monthly subscription. Meta lists it in USD per number per month (from about USD 14.99 on the entry plan when we checked in September 2026) and shows the local price in the app. Stop paying and the badge goes.
Searching "how to get blue tick on WhatsApp Business"? Same badge, same process. The green tick turned blue in 2024 (more on that below).

The green tick is blue now
People still search for the WhatsApp green tick, but the badge has not been green for a while. Meta's own developer docs described the Official Business Account badge as a "green checkmark" until at least July 2024. By September 2024 the same page said "blue checkmark". The WhatsApp Help Center now calls it "a verified badge (also known as a blue tick or blue checkmark)".
So if you are looking for the green tick, you are looking for the blue verified badge. The Official Business Account programme still exists and still gives API numbers that badge.
Three things that get mixed up
| Thing | What it is | Gives a badge? |
|---|---|---|
| Business Verification | Meta confirms your business portfolio is a real registered business, using documents such as your UAE trade licence | No |
| Official Business Account (OBA) | A free badge you request for a WhatsApp Business Platform (API) number in WhatsApp Manager | Yes, blue |
| Meta Verified / Meta One | A paid subscription for the WhatsApp Business app, with the badge granted after Meta verifies you | Yes, blue, pending verification |
Meta is explicit on the first row: verifying your business in Meta Business Suite "won't give you a verified badge". It is a prerequisite for OBA, not the badge itself.
OBA vs Meta Verified
| Official Business Account | Meta Verified / Meta One | |
|---|---|---|
| Which WhatsApp | Business Platform (API) numbers only | WhatsApp Business app numbers only |
| Cost | Free | Monthly subscription. Meta's page listed Business Standard at USD 14.99 up to Business Max at USD 499.99 per number on 24 September 2026, and says plans vary by region |
| How you get it | Submit a request in WhatsApp Manager | Subscribe in the app under Tools, then pass Meta's verification |
| Guaranteed? | No. Meta reviews every request | No. Payment is refunded if Meta cannot verify you |
| If refused | Wait 30 days, then reapply | Refund; review takes up to three business days |
| Not available for | App numbers, employee numbers, test numbers | Under-18s, government and political organisations, countries where it is not offered |
Meta One, announced in September 2026, is Meta's newer set of business tiers. WhatsApp's own FAQ says it is still in limited testing and not available everywhere. The only reliable way to know if you can buy it is to open the WhatsApp Business app and look for Meta Verified or Meta One under Tools. If the option is not there, it is not offered to your account yet.
The OBA requirements, as Meta lists them in 2026
Meta's Official Business Account page (updated 19 September 2026) lists five criteria:
- The business complies with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.
- The business has been on the WhatsApp Business Platform for at least 30 days.
- The business portfolio that owns the number is Business Verified.
- The number has two-step verification turned on.
- The number's display name has been approved.
Employee numbers, test numbers and WhatsApp Business app numbers are not eligible. To apply, open WhatsApp Manager, go to Phone numbers, then Profile, then Official business account, and click Submit Request. It does not happen on its own. If you meet the criteria but cannot see the option, Meta says to ask your Meta contact, your WhatsApp Business Solution Provider, or Meta Support. If you are refused, you must wait 30 days before the next request. Meta does not publish a review time.
Notability left the written rules in 2026
Until late 2025, Meta's OBA page asked for a "notable" brand judged by news coverage. An April 2026 version still wanted a "well-known and frequently searched for" business. By May 2026 both were gone. The current page asks for an authentic business and the five checks above.
That does not make approval automatic. A person at Meta still reviews each request, and we cannot say whether reviewers weigh press coverage in practice. The fair summary: Meta no longer lists notability, and a clear public brand presence may still help.
Business Verification with a UAE trade licence
Business Verification is usually the slowest gate. Meta accepts a business registration or licence document, so a UAE trade licence works, and it accepts documents in Arabic as well as English. The document must not be expired and must show your legal name plus your official address or phone number.
You do not need verification to start messaging. New portfolios start at a limit of 250, and verifying is one of three paths to 2,000. For OBA, though, it is required. Our guide to the WhatsApp Business API in Dubai covers the full setup order.
Display name rules that block the badge
Your display name must clearly relate to your legal name and match your external branding, such as your website. A sub-brand can use "Brand by Parent" if your website shows that link. Meta rejects:
- generic words ("Fashion") or places ("Dubai") on their own
- "Official" or "Verified" in the name
- references to Meta, WhatsApp or Facebook
- promotional text such as "20% off"
- URLs or email addresses
Display-name review starts automatically when the number reaches a higher messaging limit. If it is declined, edit the name or appeal through Developer Support. Once you hold OBA, changing the name means contacting direct support. Meta's guidelines say nothing about Arabic script either way, so if you want an Arabic display name, expect to test it.
What the badge does and doesn't do
It does one practical thing: an API number without OBA does not appear when people search for it inside WhatsApp, unless they have saved it. With OBA it can.
It does not raise your messaging limits, lower Meta's per-message prices, or improve delivery. Limits are set per business portfolio and grow with quality and volume, badge or not. Before you send anything at scale, run your copy through the WhatsApp template checker. How do I get the green tick on WhatsApp?
On the WhatsApp Business Platform, verify your business in Meta Business Manager, keep the number on the platform for 30 days, turn on two-step verification, get the display name approved, then submit an Official Business Account request with links that show your brand is well known. On the WhatsApp Business app, the only route is Meta's paid Meta Verified subscription.
How much does the WhatsApp green tick cost?
Meta does not charge for the Official Business Account badge on the API. The Meta Verified subscription for the WhatsApp Business app is paid monthly, from about USD 14.99 on the entry plan when we checked in September 2026, with the local price shown in the app.
What happens if my green tick request is rejected?
Meta tells you the number does not meet the requirements at this time, and you must wait 30 days before submitting another request. Use the time to fix the weakest point, usually notability or the display name.
Is the WhatsApp green tick still green?
No. Meta's docs changed the Official Business Account badge from a green checkmark to a blue one between July and September 2024. WhatsApp now calls it a verified badge, also known as a blue tick. Searching for the green tick gets you the same badge.
Does Business Verification give me the badge?
No. Meta says verifying your business in Meta Business Suite won't give you a verified badge. It is one of the five requirements for an Official Business Account, and it can raise your messaging limit from 250 to 2,000.
Can I buy the WhatsApp verified badge?
Not for an API number: the Official Business Account is free and granted by Meta on request. On the WhatsApp Business app, a paid Meta Verified or Meta One plan includes a badge pending verification. It is not guaranteed, and Meta refunds you if it cannot verify your business.
Do I need press coverage to get verified?
Meta removed notability and press coverage from its written Official Business Account criteria in 2026. Approval is still a review by Meta, so a clear public brand presence may help, but it is no longer a listed requirement.
Does the badge increase my messaging limit or lower prices?
No. Limits are set per business portfolio and grow with quality and volume, and Meta's per-message prices are the same with or without the badge. What it changes is search: API numbers without it do not show in WhatsApp search unless the user saved them.
